In an alternate Dragon Ball timeline where evil Androids ravaged the Earth and killed nearly every Z-Warrior, in the process, Gohan and Trunks still fight the good fight in the hopes of defeating their enemies and restoring some semblance of peace to their shattered world. Thanks to a new fanart image set before Gohan falls to the Androids, Gohan and Trunks share the heartwarming moment they’ve always deserved — something they never had enough of while Gohan was alive.

Recently shared on X by Kakeru (@DBSKAKERU1), this is far from the first time this artistic talent has uploaded Dragon Ball images that are the spitting image of what the late and great Akira Toriyama was putting out, as well as what the current Dragon Ball Super artist, Toyotarou, is illustrating.

Previously sharing art featuring Goku throwing down with Broly, Dragon Ball GT’s Super Saiyan Trunks saving Pan from danger, and even a “What If?” image of Vegeta becoming the King of all Saiyans, Kakeru doesn’t miss when creating unique Dragon Ball art, with this latest piece being no exception.

A sketch that focuses on the calm before the storm that is the death of Gohan at the hands of Androids 17 and 18, this fanart precedes what will become the defining event of young Future Trunks’ life and is a moment he’ll never forget. Eventually turning Super Saiyan after he loses his mentor and friend, seeing Trunks share a simple relaxing moment with Gohan should be all fans need to know to understand how important this image is to Dragon Ball lore, especially considering that in this alternate timeline, moments like this are few and far between.

Dragon Ball’s Gohan and Trunks have their work cut out for them in an alternate future they can’t escape, so it’s good to see Kakeru (@DBSKAKERU1) giving them a well-deserved breather before they plunge head-first back into the darkness of their reality.
