Federation Ships
The universe of FTL is inhabited by friendly and enemy ships. These ships come in a variety of layouts, and can be equipped with various systems and subsystems, weapons, drones, and augmentations. Each player ship can carry a maximum of eight crewmembers of various races, with an initial crew of between one and four members. Each ship starts with varying systems, weapons, power levels, missile ammunition, and drone parts. For ship strategies, see Ship guides. For ship comparisons, see Ship compa

After seeing so many FTL tier lists floating around on the Internet, I decided that I might as well put one together myself and post it here on my website. I've divided the 28 ships into five main tiers based around different levels of overall strength. Ships within tiers are intended to be roughly comparable in power, although they are also ranked within tiers as well. Some of the intra-tier ranking was truly splitting hairs, however, and these ships should be regarded as roughly even in strength. Ships were evaluated under the assumption of Hard difficulty with the goal of defeating the rebel flagship and winning the game as efficienty as possible. The boarding ships with a Teleporter don't get extra weight because of their ability to rack up a higher in-game score (although I have indeed factored in the additional scrap and other rewards that they can reap from boarding). The ranking was also done with the assumption of an experienced player using these ships to the best of his or her ability. In other words, low skillcap ships like the Engi A don't receive more weight for being easy to use. Finally, this is ultimately a personal ranking based on my opinions. Readers of this website will know that I favor gunships over boarding ships, and while I've tried not to let that affect this list, I'm sure personal bias plays a factor in this process. Let's get started.

Figured a main post thread where everything is consolidated and explained is in order. This guide will detail how to unlock every ship, as well as have a picture of both A and B types and detail anything of note about them. I have not unlocked the Federation B Type yet, so if anyone has a picture that would be great. Likewise, I do not know the new/easier requirements to unlock ships, such as for the Mantis ship, so if anyone can provides, that would be equally great. Also, if anyone has exact text for the dialogue options, that would be appreciated.

I've played FTL: Faster Than Light a lot over the years. There are many discussions about the game's difficulty. Many players contend that the game is harsh and luck-based and frequently unwinnable, while experienced players counter with tales of winning long streaks and a substantial majority of games on Hard difficulty. Here is my contribution to this discussion.
